New levels of productivity and reliability in stainless steel turning - is one grade enough?

Competitive machining of stainless steel today needs the right combination of productivity and reliability.

Machining stainless steels subjects the cutting edge to higher levels of temperatures and cutting forces,

smearing and work-hardening than associated with many other work-piece materials. These destructive

forces join forces to keep cutting data down, shorten tool-lives and deteriorate component quality –

making stainless steel turning an area that needs special consideration.

Modern milling tools in harmony with CNC

CNC milling machines and machining centres have brought about the need for more capable and universal

milling cutters - the development of more advanced milling tools over the past few years is a response to this requirement. In the past, a dedicated or special tool was in many cases the only efficient solution for many applications, especially as batches were large. Today, when more flexibility in production is needed, new

milling cutter concepts are providing both broadly capable tools. Modern tool-design and -manufacturing have

made it possible to realise sophisticated tool concepts that utilize CNC machine tools, increase production

output and make the machining process more reliable.

High Speed Machining (HSM)

One of the main targets for the die and mould industry is to reduce or eliminate manual polishing and thus

improving quality and reducing production costs and lead times. High Speed Machining (HSM) may be able

to achieve this.

Supercritical Water Oxidation - the Environmental Answer to Organic Waste Disposal?

Introduction:

Environmentally benign waste disposal is becoming a more and more acute problem. A newly developed process, supercritical water oxidation is demonstrating extremely efficient organic waste destruction (99.99%) plus excellent environmental characteristics (none of the emissions associated with incineration). The process is especially suitable for the treatment of sludges from domestic sewage and the paper and pharmaceutical industries
